Your 90-day plan at a glance

  • First month

Every good training plan starts with a solid foundation and this is no different. We’ll start off with an in-depth 90-minute assessment to explore all parts of your dog’s life including diet, sleep, physical exercise, mental stimulation, and more. As a qualified Dynamic Dog Practicioner I also complete a movement and gait analysis on your dog to determine if there is underlying pain present.

There is SO much more to training success than formal training plans and this is when we’ll dig deep into all of these factors. During this first month, we will focus on how to reduce your dog’s overall stress and anxiety, how to build confidence and calm, target any underlying pain or discomfort that could be getting in the way, and start working on basic yet essential training exercises that are key for success down the line.

This month is all about building a killer foundation for your dog so they are prepped to learn something huge - how to be home alone.

  • Second month

By the second month, you should be feeling confident, optimistic, and more than ready to start teaching your dog that being home alone is no biggie.

After 4 weeks of not leaving your dog home alone, making sure they’re feeling good in their bodies, and building general confidence, they will be ready to start to be left alone (slowly and carefully).

This month starts off with me assessing your dogs alone-time behaviours in real-time. From there, I write you near-daily desesntization training exercises to complete with your dog as we start to slowly build confident alone time.

In this step, you’ll be training about 5 days a week for 20 - 30 minutes each day as you slowly expose your dog to being home alone, all while watching them on camera and sending me footage, too.

This month is all about your dog starting to learn that alone time isn’t such a big deal after all.

  • Third month

At this point, both you and your dog will gotten the hang of this “home alone” game. You are now a pro at reading your dog’s body language and you know how to support them through their training.

This month, we continue our work together closely every day and are likely starting to really accumulating wins - leaving for longer, seeing more comfort during absences, and working in things like keys and purses.

This month, you’ll continue to train for about 5 days a week for around 20 - 30 minutes each day.

This month is all about building on the solid foundation you’ve created so far and keeping the momentum going.

It’s time to…

  • Stop doom-scrolling and find a training plan that sticks.

  • Find support that makes you AND your dog feel good

  • Be able to run to the store without stressing out about your baseboards.

  • Go out to dinner guilt-free, knowing your dog is fine at home.

  • Get your life back and leave your dog home alone and happy.

This could be you…

  • This program is for dogs who struggle in any way being left alone: barking, howling, destroying things, peeing/pooping, pacing, or just being unsettled.

This program is effective both for dogs who are new to training, have done separation training before, or who are new rescues.

This program is for you dedicated guardians who are ready to commit 100% to the process. This means staying contact with me near-daily as we work together together towards your goals. I’m here to support you 110% as we deep dive together into what’s going for your dog and how to help.

  • I take indicators of pain very seriously because unmanaged pain/discomfort (whether it’s from gut issues, allergies, or musculoskeltal concerns) can have huge impacts on behaviour. Up to 82% of behavioural cases have some sort of underlying pain component and indicators of discomfort are often subtle and easily-missed, even in vet appointments.

Pain can impact separation anxiety by making dogs less able to cope with the stress of being home, and may make dogs more “clingy” (think you as a kid when you got sick).

By exploring how your dog moves and performs all activities of daily living, we can often uncover some sneaky signs of discomfort that you can then work with your vet to resolve. I write a report to send to your vet for all dogs working with me.

  • The short (and unsexy) answer is no you cannot.

Everytime your dog is left alone and panics, they are patterning both that behaviour and that intensely negative feeling. That makes our job impossible as we work to overcome that negative association.

A big part of our Month 1 work together is creating management strategies so that you can still go to work or go out for dinner while making sure your dog isn’t left completely by themselves. We work to build your dog’s village so you can still live your life while helping your dog be successful.

This isn’t forever BUT it is essential that we pause all alone-time that casues panic. Otherwise - to be totally honest - you will be wasting your time and money.

  • I very much understand this feeling and I have so much respect for the amount of care and love you’ve shown your dog to get to this point.

In our work together, we dig deeper than just surface-level training to try and address ALL the factors that impact training success. We also ensure that we go at your dogs pace, meaning that we are less likely to push them too far and have a big setback.

  • Separation anxiety is a complex condition and treatment often takes months and sometimes years and is not always linear.

Separation anxiety is impacted by a variety of factors, only some of which are in our control (genetics, past experiences, ability to manage stressors, time available to train, etc).

While progress is variable for each dog, by structuring our program first by addressing foundational factors and then tackling desensitization strategies, we have the best plan of attack for building lasting success. Progress IS possible.

We go at your dogs pace increasing their time left alone as they are comfortable - sometimes this increase is seconds, sometimes it’s minutes - but by going at your dog’s pace we avoid pushing too far and backsliding.

At the end of the 90 days, you may have reached your alone time goals and if so, yay!! You may not have reached your ultimate goal but you feel confident in continuing the training on your own. You may also decide you’d like to continue our work together book additional months.

  • All separation anxiety work is 100% virtual meaning that we can work together no matter where you live and you can definitely work with me while wearing sweatpants (full disclosure - I will be too).

Working virtually allows me to review your dogs behaviours in real-time and I can see what your dog does when YOU leave the house, not when some weird lady comes over smelling like hot dogs.

I teach you how to teach your dog so you can carry on your training success far beyond once our work together is finished.

And don’t worry if you’re not techy! We use super user-friendly platforms like Zoom and Google Drive and I’ll help you through it all.

  • Within 48 hours after your initial consultation, I will send you over your first steps in your dog’s personalized training plan in a digital workbook that will your one-stop-shop for all things training.

I pop into your workbook every day and provide feedback on the tasks you’ve completed. This might include reviewing videos you send, responding to voice notes, and sending texts.

Once we progress into Months 2 and 3 of the program, I will also be writing you desensitization exercises every day for you to complete based on how your dog did staying alone the day previously.

This means you get my eyes on your dog every single day.

Not only that, but you have access to me anytime via WhatsApp so you don’t have to waste a second second-guessing or figuring out something on your own - I got you!
